Souter's Replacement

Here's a link to an interesting article about potential Supreme Court replacements for David Souter, who plans to retire at some point this year:

Just as we read in The Nine, the article talks about the nuances surrounding the selection, and the pressure to represent as many races, sexes and religions as possible. Currently, the emphasis is now on "appoint[ing] the first Hispanic to the Supreme Court."

It's also interesting that, because the Obama administration originally expected Ginsburg to retire before Souter, the likely list of top candidates is headlined by women. This notion of replacing justices with someone who matches their demographic profile, rather than their political tendencies and style of Constitutional interpretation, still bothers me.
